Kitchen Fire Suppression Systems

  • NFPA 17A requires semi-annual testing/inspections of all Kitchen suppression systems and hydro-testing of cylinders every 12 years.
  • Semi-annual inspections insure that the suppression system will function as designed, in the event of a Kitchen fire. When a customer adds new appliances, we may need to modify the system to insure that there are the correct # of fusible links, nozzles and enough agent in the cylinder(s), to protect the new appliances keeping the system within UL300 compliance.
  • UL300 is a fire test procedure written by Underwriters Laboratory Inc. to ensure that all manufacturers are performing the same fire tests, in the same manner, in order to list their products with UL. This new test procedure was effective November 21, 1994. The real world fire hazards accounted for in UL 300 were the use of newer, high efficiency cooking appliances, detector reaction time prior to fuel shut-off and the use of vegetable shortening rather than animal fat. Part of the inspection of all Kitchen systems is to insure that the existing system is in compliance with UL300 standards.
